Scenario Paintball Fun

Mon May 4, 2009, 10:45 PM
  • Mood: Stunned
  • Listening to: my son's beagle snoring......
  • Reading: Digital Photography Masterclass by Tom Ang
  • Watching: this computer monitor.
  • Playing: Broadband Network Specialist
  • Eating: nuttin

This past weekend, May 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, I spent my time playing paintball in a large WWII scenario. This was so far the largest scenario I have been a part of in my 7 years of playing. It was by far the most organized and intense fighting I have done since first picking up a gun and taking the field. Everyone involved was awesome, the other players were great, the park owners were terrific, and I made a whole bunch of new friends in the paintball world. I do not have a definite figure, but I think about 300 people total were there for this event, not sure how many took part in it the whole time.

We re-fought the battles at Anzio and Monte Casino from World War II. The setup was created to simulate the situations and stages in those hard fought battles from years ago. Thinking about it now, the fighting was so intense that I am glad we only had paintball guns.

It was amazing to see so many people come together for such an event like this. I saw individuals take on roles in paintball-battle that would occur in real combat, and most likely does today in the war. We even had some players who have had that real battle experience, one of which was a U.S. Marine who had just come back from Iraq. The actions and tactics that everyone used were just like that of the real military, and it was awesome to see being that 95% of the players have had zero military experience at all, and they had fun doing it!!!!!

I had a ton of fun, so much that I am still giddy about it as I type this, even though I am also still very sore from running around like a fool for 3 days.....and I would do it again tomorrow if I could. As a matter of fact, I will be doing it again in 2 weeks, but not in such a big scenario.

There were some film students there from Atlanta Georgia. They were making a documentary on scenario paintball and the sport in general. As soon as I have the link to them and the video, I will post it up.

Yes, I did take pictures, but not as many as I should have...BAD ME!

But, you see, I was having way too much fun fighting in the battles instead. And nobody...but nobody, gets to take daddy's camera into combat but daddy. I got plenty of great pictures though, but I admit there were some fights that would have been just awe-inspiring to photograph, and I missed that chance to have my fun. The prices we pay........

Anyway, as I post the pictures, please enjoy them for what they are....fun at the most intense level.
Get out and try it if you can, with the right people it is very fun. If you are not sure about playing, go out and take pictures of it first, to get more in tune with the sport before you try. Yes, you will have bumps and bruises, and plenty of welts and sore muscles to make you question what you are doing, but you will be bragging about them later......I GUARANTEE IT!

Once again...enjoy.
